My reflection on the role of Mugwe

My reflection on the role of Mugwe, the spiritual leader of the Tharaka people lands me into this conclusion. That just like any spiritual leader in the world (priest, pastors, bishops, cardinals etc) Mugwe continues to play an active role in the affairs of the SALT Knowledge Holders meetings. He prays and blesses people before and after all the meetings. He blesses seeds before the planting season and recently he has baptized people with traditional names. Those who need real Tharaka names can now acquire one through a process officiated by this great traditional priest and spiritual leader. He uses beer made of honey and certain traditional seeds and herbs to conduct his rituals just like the catholic priest prefers to use the altar wine for consecration. Isn’t this the true African way towards attainment of our true cultural identity? Welcome all to celebrate with us!!!
